Charleston, nine miles west on Cape Arago Highway, is an old waterfront fishing village.  It is also a premier sports fishing harbor, and one of the state's busiest commercial fishing ports.

Cape Arago
This park is located 25 miles north of Bandon on Hwy 101 and Seven Devils Road, near the mouth of Coos Bay at Charleston. Offshore islands are major breeding grounds for sea lions, seals, and birds. Southern observation deck provides a grand view of the coast.

Convenient access to the safest bar and largest bay on the coast: 560+ slips; six-lane launch ramp; daily/ monthly/annual moorage; fuel dock and propane; sewage pump-out; marine supplies; ice, tackle and bait; restrooms, showers and laundry; loaner lifejack­ets; bay crabbing and charter fishing.

Shore Acres State Park and Botanical Gardens
A former lumber baron estate with five acres of formal gardens and breathtaking ocean views is located 3.5 miles south on Cape Arago Hwy. outside of Charleston. Holiday Light Celebration in December is a must (an admission fee is charged). (541) 888-3732

South Slough Estuarine Reserve
Off Cape Arago Hwy, on Seven Devils Rd., is a 4,400-acre freshwater and saltwater reserve with wonderful hiking and canoe trails. The visitor center is open daily June-August, weekdays the rest of the year.
